Recipe
If
you have some time and want to create a new
tradition, here's a wonderful Christmas
Stollen recipe that my sister and I always loved
making together at Christmas. Since she is coming
to visit this year, I have pulled out the recipe
and am sharing it with you. It takes time,
but it is worth every minute.... especially when
the family oohs and aahhs.
ENJOY!
Ingredients: 1 c.
milk 1 c. melted butter 1/2 c.
water 5 1/4 c. all-purpose
flour 1/4 c. sugar 1 tsp salt 2 pkgs
dry yeast 2 eggs beaten 1/2 tsp lemon
rind 1/2 tsp orange
rind
1/2
c. seedless raisins 1/2 c. candied
fruit 1/2 c. chopped pecans 3 Tbsp
butter 1/2 c. sugar 1 Tbsp ground
cinnamon
Icing: 1 c.
powdered sugar 2-3 Tbsp water or milk 1/4
tsp vanilla extract Candied cherry
halves
Combine
milk, 1 c. melted butter and water in small
saucepan. Place over low heat until lukewarm.
Combine flour, 1/4 c. sugar, salt and dry
yeast in a large mixing bowl. Stir in warm milk
and eggs, mixing well. Add lemon & orange
rind, raisins, fruit and nuts and mix well. Cover
& refrigerate
overnight.
Place
chilled dough on a floured surface and roll into
an 18 x 12" rectangle. Spread with 3 Tbsps butter.
Combine 1/2 c. sugar and cinnamon, sprinkle
over butter.
Beginning
with the long edge roll up in jelly roll fashion
pinching edges to seal, and trim. Place roll on
large greased cookie sheet and leave as a log or
shape into a ring. Brush ends with water and pinch
together to seal. Using shears, cut dough every
inch and turn each piece gently on its side.
Let rise in a warm place uncovered for 1
hour.
Bake
at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes or until golden
brown. Ice with powdered sugar icing and candied
cherry halves.
This is definitely "lovin
from the
oven". |

Our
Holiday Design
Workshop
Our
Holiday Design Workshop featuring Beth Kerkhof of
Marvelous Mantels, was a huge success. We
had 85 people in attendance, and I don't know what
people loved more... the gorgeous wreaths and
mantels Beth created, or the key lime cupcakes and
almond champagne. Regardless, everyone had a
festive time and we will be looking forward to
more entertaining workshops in 2011. If you
have an idea of what you would like to see
featured in one of our upcoming workshops, please
email
Betty with your
suggestions.

Check
out the video on our YouTube Channel
and watch for more videos to come in
2011!

Junior
Service League of Woodstock's Tour of Homes was
another holiday
success
FF&D decorated the home of Jane Hines in Deer
Run in the spirit of "Christmas in Provence".
Jane's home already had a country French flavor to
the decor, so we expanded on that idea and
decorated eight Christmas trees throughout
the house including a rustic French Country
design using pheasants, pine cones, copper
ornaments and ribbons, wheat, cinnamon sticks and
bird nests in the living room, and a harlequin
tree in the Gentleman's office.
Cozy warmth permeated the house as hundreds of
people filed through on the Tour. If you missed
this year, make sure you mark your calendar for
2011. All proceeds (over $13,000) were given
to Cherokee
County charities.
Visit
our showroom for Christmas ornaments and items

Tour, now at 50%
